Alice Middleton (later Mrs. George McDougall),
first lived on Beaufield, and later,
during the 1930s, on Alberta in Ferndale.
She was a passenger on the ill-fated
British ship, Lusitania, sunk by the Germans
off the coast of Ireland, May 7, 1915.
Some 1,195 persons lost their lives,
114 of them Americans, in the unprovoked
attack, which ultimately led to the
United States entry into World War I.
Ms. Middleton was traveling back to
her home in England.

More detail is available at the museum.
